TALKI—Awareness on Sexual Minorities
On December 4, the Red Cross and the Human Rights Association of Loyola Degree College, in collaboration with the Indian Social Institute, Bangalore, and the Payana NGO, organized an awareness program titled TALKI—Awareness on Sexual Minorities. The program aimed to create a safe and inclusive space for dialogue, learning, and understanding about sexual minorities, while promoting dignity, equality, and human rights.
The session focused on sensitizing students to the lived realities of sexual minorities and addressing misconceptions, stigma, and discrimination faced by the community. Resource persons from the Indian Social Institute and Payana NGO shared their experiences and insights, highlighting legal perspectives, social challenges, and the importance of empathy and respect. Through interactive discussions, real-life narratives, and awareness activities, students were encouraged to reflect on the values of inclusivity and social justice.
The program also emphasized the role of educational institutions in fostering acceptance and protecting the rights of marginalized groups. Participants actively engaged in discussions, asked thoughtful questions, and expressed a willingness to become allies in promoting equality and non-discrimination.
TALKI proved to be an enriching and thought-provoking initiative that strengthened awareness about sexual minorities and reinforced the college’s commitment to human rights, compassion, and social responsibility. The program concluded with a call to action for students to uphold constitutional values and contribute towards building an inclusive and respectful society for all.
