Journalism Students Learn Smartphone Production Skills at Campus Workshop
To equip future journalists with essential digital skills, the Department of Journalism at Loyola Degree College, Bannerghatta Road, Bengaluru, in collaboration with IQAC and twinning partner St Joseph’s University, hosted a half-day workshop on August 11, 2025. The event, titled "Creation and Production Through Mobile," drew 105 BA Journalism students.
The workshop, held in the College’s seminar hall, aimed to help students harness the power of smartphones for content creation. The program began with an opening prayer led by Sr. Jhansi of the 3rd BA, followed by a welcome address from Mr. Lazarus Lepcha, the Head of the Department and program coordinator. Dr Fr Alphonse P Fernandes SJ, the Principal, gave a presidential address, urging students to embrace technology for creative work while preserving the value of human craftsmanship.
Mr Suhas Srinivas and Mr Jenil K George, seasoned professionals in design and photography with corporate experience and current faculty members from the School of Communication and Media Studies at St. Joseph’s University, served as resource persons. They combined theoretical instruction with practical exercises, directing students to create group videos of a campus tour using their smartphones. This hands-on session allowed students to practice their videography skills under expert guidance.
Following the practical session, a valedictory ceremony was held. Meghashree, a third-year BA student, delivered the vote of thanks, and the resource persons were honoured with mementoes and books. Students were then asked to complete a feedback form sent via a WhatsApp link and instantly received their e-certificates for the workshop. Milton Vibek, also from the third-year BA, was the Master of Ceremonies for the day. Mr Dalu Jose and Mr Lazarus Lepcha, faculty members in the Journalism Department, served as the program conveners.
